This question set the tone for the interactive roundtable, Mobilizing the Means: Sustainable financing for health and NCDs in Post-2015, co-hosted by the Permanent Missions of the Caribbean Community to the United Nations (CARICOM), UNDP, and the NCD Alliance.

Processed fruit snacks contain more sugar than sweets

New research by Action on Sugar has revealed huge amount of hidden sugars in seemingly ‘healthy’ fruit snacks aimed at children in the UK. Over three quarters (85%) of products surveyed (i.e. 80 of the 94 products) contain more sugars than Haribo Starmix (47g/100g) confectionary per 100g – with some containing over 4 teaspoons per portion.

Opinion: Tobacco taxes too effective to overlook in financing for development

"Governments are in the midst of tough talks in New York over the text of the Addis Ababa Accord, which is scheduled to be adopted at the end of the Third Conference on Financing for Development (FfD), to be held in Ethiopia in July. However at last report, negotiators continued to downplay a powerful mechanism that governments could use to help achieve and finance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that will replace the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in September: tobacco taxes."

68th WHA midweek update

Activities at the 68th World Health Assembly are now well underway. For the first time, proceedings are being webcast live. Agenda item 13, solely on NCDs, is due to be discussed from Friday 22 through Monday 25. Item 14, promoting health through the life course, is scheduled to begin today afternoon, 21 May.
