Description
The packed agenda of the 76th World Health Assembly (WHA76) demonstrated the commitment of global public health professionals to strengthen not just health systems, but the multi-lateral collaboration needed to get us there. The discussions on NCDs and Universal Health Coverage (UHC) were combined in a last-minute adjustment. This underscored the inextricable connection between them. You can find a brief recap of the WHA76 in a blog by NCD Alliance Policy and Advocacy Managers Liz Arnanz and Marijke Kremin.
However, the discussions cannot remain in Geneva, they should be reflected in the final UHC Political Declaration in September. The Zero Draft of the Declaration was released in May, and NCD Alliance has responded with key opportunities to strengthen the document. NCD Alliance's comments are based on its UHC 2030 advocacy priorities. These two resources can be used by civil society actors to call on their governments to include our recommendations and priorities in the final Political Declaration. To support these advocacy efforts, we have released a template letter to governments outlining these key asks on NCD and UHC integration. This template letter can be adapted as appropriate for your own organisation and government.
To give you a more detailed overview of WHA76 and elaborate on all the advocacy resources available for the UN HLM on UHC, NCD Alliance recorded the special webinar.
The recording is now available here:
