The 53rd Session of the Commission for Social Development (CSOcD53) will take place from 4 – 13 February 2015 at UN Headquarters in New York. The theme for the session and for the Commission’s policy cycle 2015-2016 is “Rethinking and strengthening social development in the contemporary world.”
In advance of the session, NGOs in Consultative Status with ECOSOC were invited to submit written statements. The NCD Alliance submitted a statement under the Union for International Cancer Control, urging the Commission to support a strong, technically sound and ambitious target on NCDs in the post-2015 framework; to ensure that addressing NCDs and adopting a life-course approach to health are critical to strengthening social development; and, to strengthen the focus on equity to ensure that no one is left behind.
The statement, along with one submitted by Alzheimer’s Disease International, can be found here.
