Update on Post-2015 Intergovernmental Negotiations

The first of three negotiation sessions on the zero draft of the Post-2015 Development Agenda outcome document was held last week in New York. Member States presented initial views on each component of the draft: Declaration, Goals and Targets, Follow up and Review, and Means of Implementation.
On Wednesday 24 June, the co-facilitators held a session with Stakeholders, during which the Health in Post-2015 Civil Society group delivered a statement on the importance of including physical and mental health and well-being in the Declaration of the document. Final negotiations on the draft outcome document for the Third International Conference on Financing for Development were held last week and continued through the weekend, and are expected to reach a conclusion by the end of this week.
Through the efforts of the NCD Alliance, FCA, and other partners, the draft document currently contains strong references to the implementation of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) and the benefit of taxing unhealthy substances, including tobacco.
