The World Cancer Congress, an initiative by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), aims to strengthen participants' impact on national, regional and international scales through a programme that features the latest successful interventions on cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care.

The theme of this year's World Cancer Day, "Close the Care Gap", is a call to action to raise awareness about the disparities in cancer treatment.

Global influencers and leaders in cancer control and public health from around the world and from across governments, UN agencies, academia, non-profit organisations and private sectors will convene in order to explore how the cancer community works with and encourages governments to invest in cancer control and be innovative in their approach so they can better understand their cancer burden, improve prevention, early detection and treatment of cancer.

On World Cancer Day people around the world collaborate towards a shared vision: a world where millions of cancer deaths are prevented and access to life-saving treatment and care.
